A great branding project we’ve been working on is now open and has already exceeded expectations for our clients’ business. Makers’ Yard is a refurbished Grade II listed former hosiery factory in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, consisting of 10 workspace studios for professional designer-makers.
The brand needed to reflect the rich history and heritage of the building, as well as the contemporary creative output of its tenants. The resulting identity is completely hand crafted, with hand painted lettering and rough textured rolled paint to give a creative and unique look to the logo, website and marketing materials, signage and wayfinding.

The Makers Yard brief was not straightforward. in fact it was a kind of ‘perfect storm’ of constraints for a branding project: a limited budget, design-savvy target market (artists and designer-makers), a lovingly-restored grade II listed building rich in industrial history, and strong political interest from the Mayor. (Not to mention the decision-making complexities of having a local Council as the client!)
Newenglish were excellent at establishing an inspired name and identity that sensitively encapsulated all these important elements. The success of the brand speaks for itself: 75% occupancy on opening and nothing but positive comments from all the key stakeholders. I know they went above and beyond in all elements of the brief.
