We were asked by NIACE to create some illustrated event maps for their annual Skills Funding Agency/NIACE Equality and Diversity Innovation Fund (EDIF) dissemination events.
Lots of events use quite formulaic maps, and Niace wanted to set the bar and introduce something unique and memorable – the maps needed to have personality!
The maps would double up as a folded event programme and needed to consider accessibility to be easily understood by all.
The Thinking
We captured all of the information about the events from the wonderful Niace team, who gave us the layout and running order for each one.
Using this information we created a range of hand drawn illustrations to define the style across the event guides. When we had client approval, we rolled out over 50 hand drawn illustrations that were used to construct the finished maps.
Each map filled a landscape A3 page, and folded down to be the pocket sized A5 event guides used by all the attendees.
We also created a web page featuring a selection of information and illustrations from the maps, to give the digital format a cohesive and friendly feel.
The Result
A really unique and special approach to something that could have been very functional.
The illustrations from the maps have been used across the event promotions, on Niace email footers, on social media and marketing. The style created has become recognisable and is well loved by all involved.
