Strong brand for space themed Leicester art trail

Newenglish were very proud to have played a major role in the biggest public art event the city of Leicester has ever seen! Rocket Round Leicester, an intergalactic art trail and flagship funding event for LOROS Hospice, was staged in collaboration with their event partners Wild in Art, and featured 40 giant rocket sculptures for visitors to find at various locations across the city.

Our job was to create the look and feel of the brand. We began by finding a catchy name for the event and creating the Rocket Round Leicester logo.

Taking inspiration from the Pop Art movement, the logo itself was designed to be able to be easily read and recognised by people of all ages, whilst also being straightforward to apply to a wide range of applications—from badges, signage and print, and applied across all digital platforms. 

We created not only a strong and easy-to-read logo mark, but a whole raft of visual techniques to carry through the brand. We used halftone dots and solid shapes to create a dynamic backdrop for the logo and copy to sit on. The dynamic abstract shapes, which we referred to as KAPOW shapes, added a strong, dynamic, and exciting feel to the brand.

In addition, a range of illustrations were created to sit alongside the brand style. The illustrations depicted iconic Leicester landmarks, and a range of space related elements, such as planets, space-men and -women, asteroids, rockets and rocket trails.

The strong Rocket Round Leicester logo, a vibrant colour palette, the dynamic kapow shapes, halftone Pop Art style textures, and the range of illustrations, all combined to create a strong and hugely successful brand for the Rocket Round Leicester art trail.
