Newenglish Design are very proud to have played a major role in launching the biggest public art event the city of Leicester has ever seen!
Rocket Round Leicester is an intergalactic art trail and flagship funding event for LOROS Hospice. Staged in collaboration with their event partners Wild in Art, it features a stellar fleet of 40 giant rocket sculptures – each an 8ft tall, rocket-shaped, blank canvas for selected artists to express themselves and display their work publicly at various locations across the city.
As the chosen design partner, we created the overall ‘look and feel’ of the event. We designed a playful brand which is bursting with colour and cosmic energy, successfully pairing the excitement of space travel with the vibrant, eye-catching and culturally significant pop-art movement.
Our first task at Newenglish ‘mission control’ was to name the event. After much consideration we landed-upon Rocket Round Leicester – not only is this an accurate description of the art trail, but we love the way it just rolls off the tongue, forming a memorable statement.
Once we gave the event a name and the brand was approved, we set about generating some interest in the local community. We created several documents showcasing the event to potential sponsors and recruiting local schools to take part in the Junior Jet trail. We then crafted the all-important document and promotional materials which would be used to successfully recruit the 40 artists required to decorate the Rockets and bring the trail to life.
The event was being organised against the uncertain and ever-changing backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, which posed various challenges. Throughout this time we remained on hand to assist LOROS in any way we could to ensure the launch date was met and the event was a success.
We supplied the team at LOROS with a toolbox of branded assets, alongside a set of detailed brand guidelines, so the LOROS team could promote the event on social media in a consistent and on-brand way, whilst also allowing them the flexibility to apply the Rocket Round Leicester brand to a wide range of print, digital and large format assets, including the signage at the art trail base and various event merchandise – we just love the Rocket logo fridge magnets!
The whole team at Newenglish are really proud of this work. It’s great to see the brand we created on display around the city, with so many people, young and old ‘hunting Rockets’ (using the map we designed!) and genuinely enjoying the trail.
After a challenging 18 months we all needed a boost, and we hope this brand raises a smile, and that this art trail goes some way towards bringing people together to celebrate creativity and our fine city, whilst at the same time generating much-needed funds for LOROS Hospice to support the fantastic work they do.
